Feeling like we are Overworked and Underpaid or Under-appreciated.
We have all been there. And many of us currently are.
We grind day in and day out and feel like we have no time to catch our breath, enjoy life or step away from work.
But that is because we are living like there is a countdown each day where time is going to run out. Like we have to cram in as much as possible otherwise time will run away from us.
It's a hard thing to view life on a timeline. We've all heard someone say that time is but a construct. But its true.
Think about a time when TIME seemed to stand still.
Was it when you were out to dinner with friends, fully engaged in conversation? Playing a game or sport? On the beach, relaxed and happy?
What do these all have in common? Positive emotions. Happiness.
If we can change our measurement, we change our balance.
Instead of asking yourself how much time you can spend on work versus personal life, ask how much happiness you are getting out of your life.
When we are stressed, we aren't happy.
When we grind, we aren't happy.
How can you find happiness within each day? If you are not in love with your job, or you've lost your passion for it, what joy can you create at work?
When was the last time you paused at work, away from your phone, emails, work chatter, and just paused. Gave your mind a moments break, and just checked out?
You can check out by yourself, with a coworker, on a walk, with a stretch. Anything that allows your mind a break.
When you disconnect your mind from the task, your breathing tends to slow, you are more aware of how you feel, and you are better able to reset an intention to your task at hand.
Stand up, stretch and walk around your office space for 2 minutes
Find a coworker to chat about anything besides work
Stand up, close your eyes and take 10 deep breaths
Use the bathroom without bringing your phone
take a comedy break. find something to laugh about.
The focus shouldn't be about how to fill your time to max capacity, the focus should be how to fill your heart with happiness, love and peace each day.
There you will find fulfillment, balance.
