Now Hiring: CEO of Education

Who is running the education system, really?

When you think of the government, you think of the political leaders making decisions based on the people in their districts and regions. But when we turn to the educational system, yes we have someone “in charge” of the education department, but their role is treated more as a maintenance position than as a CEO.

What makes a great CEO of a Company?

Prioritizing the business and those that work for the business first. If your employees are happy and are showing up, loving their job, then they will do a better job. When I talk to fellow colleagues and educators, no one is really Happy with what they do or how we are treated. Even with an awesome principal or fun coworkers, teachers are not thrilled by how we are treated. Low pay, little recognition for what we do for youth, little to no resources or support, the list goes on. Everyone's heard the complaints. Whether you're a teacher or not.

But why has there been no change?

If the CEO of a company heard that more than half of its employees were miserable, a great CEO would create change. And let's be honest, if the education system were to be a business, the customers would leave terrible reviews, employees would continue to bash on the company, and most likely it'd go out of business, file bankruptcy and be nonexistent.

Adapting. Our world is evolving exponentially and if a CEO is going to keep a company afloat, they must be willing to adapt and let go of their old beliefs and systems to allow for future success. Our education system has made almost zero change or improvements since it was first designed in 1867. Sure, we aren't using some of the old techniques like whipping students anymore, but our mass practice to have students be compared to one standard of success has barely changed.

If education is going to be successful for the FUTURE of our children, it needs to be viewed more as a company, run by CEO, CFO, COO CTO all assuring that the infinite vision of educating the youth for Future success remains the main drive for how the education system operates. It has not made existential flexibility even possible. For the industry to disrupt the model and course of action in order to more effectively advance a Just cause.

It’s one of the only businesses that exists with nearly no adaptability or flexibility or has made major pivots in their process or beliefs.

We need a CEO of Education to take care of their employees, create a work environment that creates trust and respect.
